Papua New Guinea police have arrested two people for the brutal rape and murder of a 23-year-old woman in the capital Port Moresby.
Margaret Gamaru Gabriel's was allegedly attacked and killed in the Baruni Settlement area. Her body was recovered over the weekend in what's become the second fatal attack in a week.
Assistant Police Commissioner for the National Capital District Ben Turi says two suspects have been arrested and the search for more is underway, as investigations continue.
Police have bulldozed and excavated homes and building in the settlement as they search for suspects. Turi says leaders need to do more to create economic opportunities back home. Meanwhile, the MP for Hiri-Koiari Keith Iduhu says illegal settlers in the capital Port Moresby need to be repatriated home for the safety of citizens.
"I appeal to the public to come forward to the Police to render information that will to arrest of these perpetrators," said Assistant Police Commissioner for the National Capital District Ben Turi.
