Method

  1. 1.Prepare the cake batter according to the packet instructions, and divide into 2 x bake tins:
    1. 1.1 x 17cm round cake
    2. 2.1 x 25 x 30cm rectangular cake
  2. 2.Bake and let cool.
  3. 3.

Print and cut out the Jemima template listed above onto A4 paper. To make the frosting, beat the butter until pale and smooth. Beat in the vanilla, then slowly add in the icing sugar on a low setting. Add in the heavy cream to make it easier to mix. Add more cream if necessary. Colour ½ a cup of frosting blue, ½ a cup of frosting with the sifted cocoa, ¼ cup of frosting dark grey and leave the remaining frosting uncoloured.

Tip: You only need to add in a tiny amount of food colouring gel when colouring frosting

  4. 4.Use the round cake to cut out Jemima's head template and the rectangular cake to cut out the body template. Use the remainder of the cake to cut out legs, shoes and pigtail shapes (see step 4 above)
  5. 5.On a large board arrange Jemima's head, body and legs. Leaving the pigtails and shoes to the side for the moment.
  6. 6.Spread the blue frosting over Jemima's upper body and sleeves. Spread the uncoloured frosting over face, lower body and legs. Use the cocoa frosting around the head for hair and pigtails. Use the dark grey frosting to cover the shoes and then place the shoes and pigtails into position. (See step 6)
  7. 7.To make Jemima's overalls, halve the musk sticks lengthwise and lay in position. (See step 7)
  8. 8.Use the liquorice bullets to create hair and pigtails. Cut 2 slices of pink marshmallow for cheeks and 2 dark brown smarties for the 2 eyes. Cut a thin strip from the jelly snake to form a mouth and then take the sponge finger biscuits and gently trim to a 9cm length, then add a small v in each biscuit to indicate thumbs, them place in position. (See step 8)
  9. 9.Use the remaining, colourful, smarties to add polka dots to Jemima's top and buttons. Lastly, positions the blue bows on the pigtails.
  10. 10.Enjoy your Jemima cake!
