There was a time where you didn't have to be a football fan to appreciate Manchester United. They spawned icons like David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. They won... everything, really. They transcended the sport the same way that Coca Cola might transcend soft drinks or Apple with computers. And then it went very wrong, for a very long time.
