A former NSW primary school teacher has been charged with a string of historical sexual assault offences allegedly committed during classes, sporting trips and planned sleepovers at children's homes.
The man, aged 68, taught at a Bathurst school in the late 1980s.
He was arrested at Sydney International Airport on Saturday and charged with 20 offences, including sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 10.
The charges also included 15 counts of sexual/indecent assault against a person under 16 years old under authority, and four counts of sexual intercourse with a person between 10 and 16 years old under authority.
Police launched the investigation in May 2023, in response to reports made about offences that allegedly occurred between 1988 and 1990.
The accused man appeared on Sunday at Parramatta Local Court, where he was granted conditional bail.
The 68-year-old is required to surrender his passport, not enter any international airport or other departure point from Australia, not be in the company of children under the age of 18 years and report to Chatswood Police Station three times a week.
The matter is listed to be heard in the Gosford Local Court in May.
