The demands of Labor party factions have seen frontbenchers Mark Dreyfus and Ed Husic dumped from the new government's ministry.
The ABC's Brett Worthington observes women now make up more than half of the Labor caucus but that's not being reflected in the appointment of ministers.
And he's predicting a tight contest in the Liberal leadership battle between Sussan Ley and Angus Taylor.
