Man dies, woman fighting for life after caravan crash on Bruce Highway

A man has died and a woman is fighting for life after a vehicle towing a caravan collided with a ute before rolling down an embankment on the Bruce Highway near the Sunshine Coast this morning.

Paramedics had been treating the driver of the car with the caravan, a man in his 80s, at the crash site, but police have now confirmed he died at the scene.

His passenger, a woman in her 60s, was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition with life-threatening injuries.

She has suffered chest and abdominal injuries.

Police said the driver of the ute was not physically injured.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Nirimba, near Caloundra, at 11:20am following initial reports of a two-vehicle crash.

The Bruce Highway northbound has been closed near Roys Road since the crash happened and traffic is being diverted via Steve Irwin Way.

Police are also asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
